AeroPress Guide
Manual pressure and a quick brew, halfway between filter and espresso.
The AeroPress makes a clean cup quickly. Works for filtered coffee, espresso-style shots, or cold brew. Use it anywhere.
Parts:
Chamber and plunger (300 ml capacity)
Filter cap
Stirrer and scoop
Paper filters and stand
Standard Method:
Recipe: 15 g of coffee (medium grind), 225 ml of freshly boiled water
Time: 1:30
Rinse the chamber and plunger with hot water. Rinse the filter in the cap.
Add coffee to the chamber over the cup. Attach the filter cap.
Pour all the water in quickly. Stir 3 times. Insert the plunger lightly to seal.
At 1:00, remove the plunger, stir 3 times.
Reinsert the plunger, press gently until 1:30 total.
Expect sweet, fruity notes with medium body.
Inverted Method:
Recipe: 30 g of coffee (coarse grind), 120 ml of water at 93°C + 120 ml of dilution water
Time: 2:15
Rinse the chamber. Rinse 2 filters in the cap.
Seal the plunger in the chamber. Flip it over, add coffee.
Slowly add 120 g of water. Stir for 30 s to wet it all.
Screw on the filter cap. Press slightly to release air.
Flip onto the cup. Wait 45 s.
Press for 30 s (yields 80 g of concentrate). Dilute with 120 ml of hot water. Pour between containers to cool to 60°C.
Troubleshooting
Leaks: Clean off residue. Replace the seal if worn.
Hard to press: Use a coarser grind. Loosen the cap slightly.
Splashes out the side: Press more slowly, use a coarser grind, or brace with your forearm.
Weak: Finer grind or more coffee.
Bitter: Cooler water (85-95°C), shorter time.
Tips over: Use a flat surface, a heavier cup.
Experiment to find your own ratio and timing.
